چکیده

We are developing a system for real-time estimation and display of tissue elastic properties using a clinical ultrasonic imaging system. Our hypothesis is that real-time feedback of elasticity images is essential in obtaining high-quality data. Extensive experience with laboratory fixtures and off-line processing of elasticity data showed that problems occurring in data acquisition often resulted in poor elasticity image quality. Our experience with real-time freehand elasticity imaging shows that images with high contrastto-noise can be obtained. Results in volunteer patients have shown that high quality elasticity images are easily obtained in vivo in breast and thyroid pathologies. The key element to successful scanning is real-time visual feedback which guides the patient positioning and compression direction. Results show that individual images of axial strain in tissues can be quite misleading and that a ‘movie loop’ of strain images provides significantly more information adding to intuition.

3D Quasi-Static Ultrasound Elastography With Plane Wave In Vivo

In biological tissue, an increase in elasticity is often a marker of abnormalities. Techniques such as quasi-static ultrasound elastography have been developed to assess the strain distribution in soft tissues in two dimensions using a quasi-static compression. However, as abnormalities can exhibit very heterogeneous shapes, a three dimensional approach would be necessary to accurately measure ...

GPU-Based Elasticity Imaging Algorithms

Quasi-static elastography involves estimating the displacement field of the tissue undergoing slow compression. Since elastography is computationally expensive, many compromises have been made to perform it in real time. Parallelized algorithms and implementations for freehand palpation elastography are proposed in this paper to speed the computation. We present parallel implementations for Nor...

Tracked Ultrasound Elastography (TrUE)

This paper presents a robust framework for freehand ultrasound elastography to cope with uncertainties of freehand palpation using the information from an external tracker. In order to improve the quality of the elasticity images, the proposed method selects a few image pairs such that in each pair the lateral and out-of-plane motions are minimized. It controls the strain rate by choosing the a...

Real-time 3-D ultrafast ultrasound quasi-static elastography in vivo

Ultrasound elastography, a technique used to assess mechanical properties of soft tissue is of major interest in the detection of breast cancer as it is stiffer than the surroundings. Techniques such as ultrasound quasi-static elastography have been developed to assess the strain distribution in soft tissues in two dimensions using a quasi-static compression. However, tumors can exhibit very he...

Freehand ultrasound elastography with a 3-D probe.

This paper presents the first near-real-time freehand ultrasound elastography system using a (3-D) mechanical probe. Acquisition is complete within two sec, and only an additional 20 sec are required for generation of a full 3-D strain volume. The strain is axial, with estimates of lateral and elevational tissue movement used to increase the accuracy of the axial strain measurement. This is the...
